Shopping spree

I went up to Scottsdale, AZ to go shopping.  Wow!  I thought there was money in Delaware.  Of course I ended up spending way too much.  My mom gave me the heads up that I would need a business suit in a week.  She suggested my Class A uniform, but it's not just something I can throw on whenever I feel like it.  I would need to get permission to wear it - especially to something related to the State Department being held in DC.  I would be afraid that it would look like I was the representative from the U.S. Army anytime I did or said anything.  Actually, that's why I would need permission.

So I used that as an excuse to buy a business outfit since I don't have an outfit here and I figured nothing I had from my civilan life would fit.  That's an understatement.  The skirt and top I ended up buying were both size 2.  My first suit at MBNA was a size 6.  Most of my UD clothes were a size 10 (after Carson, some were even size 12).  When I decided to join the Army, I planned to take the Bosnian approach to fashion: have 5 or 6 fantastic outfits for each summer and winter (10 - 12 outfits TOTAL), and not give a damn about how often I wear the same thing.  If you look great, why wouldn't people want to see you in the same outfit again, right?

To make a long story short, I bought a ridiculously expensive outfit from Nordstroms (for those who follow fashion, BCBG outfit with Michael Kors shoes).  Then I followed that up by buying a crazy expensive outfit for Eden.  I'm not even going to say where I bought it because even the most fashion ignorant would actually smack their foreheads and shriek out loud.  When I think about it though, Eden has almost always had at least one piece of designer clothing each year.  Last year, she had a Benetton jacket from Germany and a pair of designer shoes from Sarajevo, and the year before that, she had a whole Benetton outfit that was purchased for her in Florence, Italy.  Before that, Herb and Mimi gave her pieces from their own designs some of which were one-of-a-kind.  Still, this year's purchase is over the top.  I'm waiting to find out if it's even in dress code.

...and for the record I drove the 3.5 hours from Sierra Vista.  It wasn't bad.

Until 2:00 a.m. on November 2, Arizona is 3 hours BEHIND you.  Please let's have fewer conversations like this one:

Me: Hello?
Friend: Hey, what are you doing?
Me: Sleeping
Friend: Still?
Me: Why, what are you doing?
Friend: Already finshed PT and I am standing in the chow line.  I can't believe you are allowed to sleep this late.
Me: Late?  It's 03:25 a.m.
Friend: Oh, sh!t...sorry...ok, so listen (attempts to continue conversation as I hang up and turn off my phone)

Once again, I'm behind

So when we last left off, I didn't know if I was going to graduate or not.  I did.  But I have no pictures.  The people who took pictures didn't send me any :(.

My situation with my injury is ongoing.  I don't sleep well and I struggle to walk around all day let alone do PT, but I do both and just bear up through the pain.  I feel like I am getting better week by week, but that is because I have not had as much rigorous exercise as usual.  I do not know what PT will be like here.

Oh, wait...where's here?  I'm at Ft. Huachuca.  It is pretty here.  I mean Arizona is pretty here.  The post itself...no, not really...um, not at all.  I was worried that it was going to be wretchedly hot - it's not.  I also thought I would have trouble getting mobile phone signal out here - I do.  If you call or text I will not know about it unless I happen to walk through one of the random 5' x 5' cells of service.  I say "walk" because I don't have a car and I am daunted by the whole process of getting one.  A) I do not want to pay for a car; the payments + insurance + gas will eat at least 20% of my take home pay.  B) The process of getting a used car without getting ripped off seems like Mission Impossible, but I guess that's the type of thing I do now.  C) The process of navigating the who insurance, tax, license crap seems like an intense hassle.  That said, my walking plan is not sustainable.  My work place is about 8 blocks from where I live.  Yes, that's only about 3/4 of a mile, but then there is the whole showing up to work sweating like a horse.  Plus it looks like the schedule is PT then showers then eat then duty day.  There would be no way for me to pull that off on foot.  The only question that remains is how long will I drag this out.  I hope the answer is less than 1 week.  Anyone want to put together a pool?

Speaking of pools, I was not invited to play in the family fantasy football pool run by my sister-in-law's husband.  Hummm.  I guess he is afraid to go up against my encyclopedic knowledge of the NFL.  He shouldn't worry.  I've been out of the loop for the last three years, which is long enough that some of my favorite players are now retired...or coming back from retirement.

Arizona

So Ted and I spent all day on the 31st flying to Arizona. Somehow I imagined this would be no problem for me...shift 6 hours to Delaware and then 3 more to Arizona. WRONG! The first night there I almost feel face first into my dinner. It was 8 pm there, but my body was screaming "IT'S 5 am - GO TO SLEEP, NOW!!!".

The next morning was better. I was bright and bouncy for the wives' trip to the botanical garden...especially since I woke up at 3:30 a.m. I should say I was bright and bouncy until the 103 degree heat hit me. Our tour was great...

...and the guide was really into it. He brought us cookies made from Mesquite trees and candy made from cactus. He showed us how rope can be made from the Agave plant (also where tequila comes from).

That afternoon I spent an obscene amount on my nails and hair and went to a fancy dinner party. It was actually fun even though we turned in a lot earlier than most.

The next day I canceled my overpriced massage appointments and we spent an obscene amount of money on clothes - mostly for the kids - I did spend $100 (including the HUGE AZ State sales tax) on running shoes. That night we went to a Mexican Rodeo.

Most importantly, they played the Star Spangled Banner at the beginning and for some reason I was moved to really sing it (normally I do the Ashlee Simpson lip sync).  The couple in front of us turned around and just raved about my singing.  Ted rolled his eyes so hard I though he was going to fall backwards.
